This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are eager, young, English Language learners as well as struggling readers and our district is one of high need.
My students are very enthusiastic about learning new things.
Previous activities and lessons have opened our eyes to their misconceptions about the natural world and their vocabulary base. I would like to expand their background knowledge, focusing on literacy and get them outdoors more often Creating background knowledge will enable them to better understand and connect with what they are learning in class.
My Project
My hard working students have been resilient this year in a challenging environment, learning in a hybrid model. My students are more engaged when they have hands-on activities and the flexibility to work in different locations. They will be able to practice and master reading skills independently while being less distracting to their peers.
These hands-on, portable materials will allow my in-person students the flexibility of learning much needed skills in other settings on our school campus, including outdoors.
Being able to learn outdoors is a game changer for students who have been learning in such a restrictive environment all year.
