Over 90% of my students come from low-income households. Despite the percentage, my students have a positive attitude and are eager to learn. This year has changed my view on teaching and made me love my job.
They are hard working, independent, and sweet.
I have special education students, students who are learning English as a second language, and students who are in homeless shelters. There is a huge range of diverse ethnicities and backgrounds among my 20 students. Over the school year, we have built a relationship of trust, and I have come to cherish this fabulous group of 10 year olds.
My Project
Students learn in different ways. Literacy and grammar are a challenging topic for struggling readers. Having a hands-on activity can aid and engage all readers. To achieve this goal I am seeking support in purchasing a VersaTiles Literacy Classroom Kit in our classroom. It will be a great addition to our rigorous learning environment. VersaTiles is aligned to our state and national standards and will reinforce my students learning goals in a fun and engaging way. With VersaTiles, students can independently answer questions and get immediate feedback if their answer is correct or not. The students are then able to revise their thinking. Research shows that immediate feedback has one of the most powerful positive effects on student learning.
