My Students
How can we close the achievement gap when students do not have the necessary materials to succeed? A review of student grades and school-wide data indicate that students with disabilities are the lowest-performing sub-group at our elementary school.
I serve students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder, and specific learning disabilities.
The typical student in my class is performing below grade level. They need differentiated instruction that targets foundational skills and is not your typical worksheet. We are a Title I, low-income school where we are working hard to close achievement gaps, but we need more learning materials to make this happen!
My Project
My students need to practice their basic math skills on a daily basis. They require repetition and drill to master basic concepts. VersaTiles create basic skill practice in a game-like format which helps to increase student motivation and engagement.
Keeping a classroom full of active students focused and on-task during math instruction, while trying to support targeted small group instruction or individual students, is a daily challenge.
I would love to have a set of VersaTiles in my room to use as a hands-on center. My students will use VersaTiles in order to work independently, reviewing the skills we have learned in math.
