Kindergarten and 1st grade are the building blocks of a child's education. My students come from a very diverse background. All of my students have special needs ranging from autism to significant developmental delay, emotional behavior disabilities, or sensory processing disorders. Each day they come to school with a smile on their face and ready to learn and we work together on creating a comfortable and safe learning environment. Our school has a 30% free and reduced-price meal plan population along with a 10% special education population.
My students are so excited about all of the things they are going to learn this year in all subject areas.
I know that they are going to put their best effort forward and I would like to assist them with that task. All of my students are unique and have their own way of learning. Not one of them learns in the same way. I hope to create a learning environment in which my students are able to become lifelong learners.
My Project
Do you like having someone looking over your shoulder all the time? Do you enjoy being able to do tasks independently? Well my students thrive on experiences where they can be independent and complete tasks on their own without my assistance. Previously, we have received the Kindergarten kit, but my students are BEGGING me for the first grade one so they can be just like their peers.
These materials will help my student build their independence, modified to be at their level, and help focus on the concrete math thinking in an extremely engaging way.
Mathematical thinking is applied into all areas of a student's day from making predictions to figuring out what time it is is. The Versatile kit will help to improve their own thinking without being influenced by others and practice key skills (like counting money) that they will need for the rest of their life.
By providing materials that are hands on and visual, my students will gain a better understanding of the building blocks of their mathematical thinking. Without a solid foundation in math, students will continue to struggle as more and more critical thinking is required. Please help me, help them.
