Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a school where the students come from mostly a low economic background and many of them are immigrants that recently arrived in this country. These are kids who want to beat the odds, but have so much stacked against them. This year I am teaching 23 fifth graders. Many of my students face challenges both in and out of the classroom.
My goal is to create a fun, inviting, and engaging classroom community for them to come to every day.
This resource also gives me the opportunity to differentiate my instruction and meet the needs of all my students. It will allow them supplemental materials to use when a textbook just simply isn’t getting the job done. As with adults, children learn in different ways and this product will allow every student the opportunity to achieve the learning gains they deserve.
My Project
As a teacher, I have come to understand that not all children learn the same. While some rather put pencil to paper, others rather a hands-on approach.
This resource, will meet the needs of all my students.
I plan to use VersaTiles when doing small group instruction with my students. This is a great resource because it also offers students the opportunity to self correct. In doing this, students will have to look back to their work and find where a mistake was made. This is taking their learning on a deeper level, where they will be able to gain the confidence to make mistakes and correct them. This tool will empower the students to take their learning into their own hands.
