I teach a class of enthusiastic second-graders. My students attend a public school which is the second largest district and one of the fastest growing in the state. Our classroom environment considers the diverse needs of students, some with special needs that require the implementation of additional strategies to be successful. My students enjoy using a variety of tools and participating in hands-on activities that consider their needs and address their different learning styles. Students take ownership of their learning and enjoy opportunities to explore and discover new things while applying what they learn. They are constantly asking questions and seeking answers to define the world around them.
The Versa Tiles will be used to support student growth in reading and math. Students will be engaged in hands-on learning that helps build strong comprehension skills in reading and problem solving in math. These materials are grade level appropriate and provide students with opportunities to practice skills while building their confidence as they work towards mastery. Students will also have opportunities to develop their social emotional learning skills through self-awareness, self-management, self-evaluation and responsible decision making through choices in their learning. These tools can be used for individual students' needs, in small groups to focus on a skill or concept, or by peer partners to help provide a supportive and nurturing learning environment for all students.
