Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

These two novels will be added to our book club project during 2nd semester. By including these two novels students will have access to a larger variety of books and topics that cover modern issues that some students face.

When students connect with a book they are more likely to finish it and want to read more.

My goal is to stimulate an interest in reading by giving students engaging material that they can relate to, connect with, and be excited by and want to read more.

My students are low-income and are in a minority-majority school. Our 11th graders are reading generally between a 3rd-6th grade level and need to bring their reading ability and comprehension up. Years ago our school gutted the library and is currently rebuilding access to books, but currently, there is not enough books in the library to run classes through it and allow students to pick a book off the shelf. By offering accessible literature for a class project kids can be exposed to modern YA literature.
