Playing games in the target language is one of the best ways for students to practice their Spanish!
Through playing engaging board games in Spanish, students have an opportunity to practice real world communication in a fun, interactive and screen-free way.
Historically, language classes have high lighted verb conjugations and other grammar points. In my class, students are eager to build relationships with each other through using the language they are studying. Playing board games together helps to build community, form friendships and increase fluency in Spanish.
My students attend our large, comprehensive urban high school and arrive with a variety of backgrounds. Students of all races are represented as well as a wide variety of socio-economic backgrounds. They are excited to learn and choose to study Spanish because they believe it will impact their participation as global citizens upon graduating from high school.
My Project
My students LOVE to play games! Their competetive, lively spirits shine on game day when they are given an opportunity to practice their language skills by playing board games.
Providing students with games gives them a vehicle to practice their Spanish in an authentic and engaging way.
Games help build community in our classroom and make learning Spanish fun!
Board games provide students with a chance to build their interpersonal communication skills. Playing games in a second language gives them a unique challenge to stretch their proficiency level, build their vocabulary and make friends.
