This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When you walk into my classroom, you will hear the voices of children singing, reading chorally, or discussing educational topics. I want my students to know that their voices are valuable while motivating them to speak. A classroom microphone and recording devices will make this happen!

My students are vibrant children who are eager to learn.

Many of my third graders come from families in which English is not the home language. Moreover, my school is a Title 1 School, where the majority of students receive free lunch. They deserve a quality education and have bright futures ahead of them!

My Project

My classroom is full of voices. Throughout the year we sing skip counting songs that help students memorize their multiplication facts. At the end of the year, we put on a show for the second graders and perform these songs. My third graders recite readers' theatre scripts on traditional literature. They engage in classroom discussions where they can voice their opinions. Currently, I use a fake microphone during these learning activities in order to create an engaging atmosphere for speaking. A real microphone would make all the difference in providing them with an authentic experience. This will allow each child to truly hear his or her own voice as well as every other voice in our classroom. Moreover, the majority of my students read below, or well below grade level. I believe providing students with recording devices will motivate them to read aloud and develop their fluency during literacy centers. I will be able to assess each child's fluency by playing back the recording.

I believe donations to this project will change my students' lives for the better by allowing them to develop confidence in sharing their voices with the world.

My third graders will develop their speaking skills and have fun while doing it!
