This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In order for the brain to be open to learning, a student must feel validated and accepted. If a child is worried or scared, of being their authentic self, academic endeavors take a back seat. I want every child in my class to feel they belong, from the way I include everyone to the books they find in our classroom library. And at this moment, my classroom library is not reflective of the amazing children I teach.

My students are helping me hone in on their pronouns, and I want to help foster a positive learning space by providing books with LGBTQ characters that uplift their experiences.

I want them to get lost in good book that sends positive affirmations about being gay, trans, or non-binary.

Students spend the majority of their day at school, so it is essential that they feel safe, seen, and welcomed. I'm hoping they feel that way the moment they come into my class and see a Progress Pride Flag that celebrates diversity and promotes an all inclusive society.
