Valentines for Veterans

Help me give my students art supplies to create Valentines for Veterans. First and fifth graders will use the new markers, colored pencils, and Valentine's stickers to create special cards for special people.

My Students

There are so many things I love about teaching first grade. Each day is filled with wonder and possibilities. One of my favorite activities to teach is “ Buddies”! Each week, first graders and fifth graders come together for thirty minutes to practice reading, complete math activities and our most favorite things to do are community based projects. In November, we worked to make crafts to decorate the local Applebee’s for Veterans’ Day. Our class motto is, “If everyone does a little, GREAT things can happen!"

As their teacher and number one champion, it is important for me to show my students that they have the ability to change the world for the better.

This time, I want them to reach out and make Valentines for Veterans. I want to surround them with the opportunities to reach out to our community and to be of service to make someone else’s day better.

My Project

At this time during the school year, most of our craft supplies have dwindle down to nothing. These new, fresh supplies will give us the opportunity to create Valentine's Day cards for Veterans. Students will have the chance to work with their fifth grade "Buddies" to use their imaginations and crafting abilities to make one of a kind cards to be sent to Veterans for Valentine's Day!

It will be a wonderful way to allow students to send a message of love and hope to those who could use it.

It will help the veterans know that they have not been forgotten.
