UV Sunlight Causes Damage to Your DNA and Potential Cancer

Help me give my students an opportunity to understand the destruction UV Sunlight does to their DNA. Students also will be learning about mutations in DNA due to UV sun exposure.

My Project

Students will be learning about DNA as well as carcinogens and mutagens. UV sunlight is a leading cause of cancer. Students will learn how UV sunlight destroys the DNA and causes mutations. Mutations in DNA can lead to cancer. Students must learn how to effectively protect their skin from harmful UV radiation. We will also be learning about types of cancer and genes that can cause cancer. (BRCA1 and BRCA2) This is a 4-day lesson that will impact over 100 students and will be used in the following years to demonstrate mutations, and cancer, and explain mitosis. Instead of worksheets, you will be supporting hands-on learning and "doing". My students are in a state which has one of the lowest funding per pupil ratios so you would be giving them a chance to learn real science which is difficult with funding barriers. You may be supporting the next student who can cure cancer!
