Utilizing Technology, Fostering Creativity, and Growing Confidence

My students need hands-on access to technological experiences with real-world applications. They need five tablets, a printer, ink, and photo paper.

My Students

I work at a small public school in rural Wisconsin, which serves approximately 800 students in grades 4K-12. The elementary/middle school building has an enrollment of about 500 students. Being a sports-oriented school there is little funding for the arts and music programs and my students are literally begging for more opportunities in these areas.

The majority of our students come from hard-working, but low-income families.

A smaller portion of our students come from upper-middle class homes. We are an area of the 'haves' and the 'have-nots'. My goal for this project is to help level the playing field for my students, and to give them opportunities that they may not have outside of the classroom.

My Project

Adding five tablets to my classroom will totally transform my students' learning experience. Not only will they be able to practice graphic design skills, photography, and video making skills, we will also be able to start creating our online portfolios. Students will use the tablets to photograph their work and then upload to a site called Artsonia, where they will keep an online portfolio that will stay with them from Kindergarten through high school.

By donating to our project, you will be providing students with the opportunities they need to reach their full creative and academic potential.

I know that the addition of a true graphic design program will benefit ALL students in my school. Those who lack artistic talent can demonstrate their creativity. Those who lack access to technology at home can develop these essential skills in school. Those who lack confidence in other academic areas can flourish and grow in the arts. This simple addition to our visual arts program will profoundly impact our students' view of the world, their school, their community, and themselves!
