My Students

A typical day in my class is busy. My students love using the on-line reading programs to help with their reading. I have students that require hands-on activities and activities with auditory support. My students are hungry for technology which most do not have access to.

My students are diverse learners .My students are learning at different levels, so the Kindle Fire and Chromebooks will give each group of students the chance to use it to support their learning.

I have students that are in second grade that have no knowledge of letters and sounds. These items will be used by them personally to help them learn these things. My students are funny and fun loving. I love to see the excitement on their faces when they realize that they can read. My school is in a low income area and a lot of the students move around quite often. While they are in my class, I would like to give them the opportunity they may not get once they leave school. The area in which my school is in, is not the safest after school hours. In some instances my students are afraid to go to the library which is not very far, but because of situations they may face on they way, it just isn't the best option.

My Project

As I stated earlier, my students love using the online reading programs and they have also discovered e-books that they can read and record using their own voices. They love listening to books, especially the books they have recorded on the computer. Sometimes this is hard to do because the equipment I have is outdated. One day it may work, and another it may not. This includes the headphones which are needed for these programs to work. The Kindle Fire would be used during independent work and reading time for the online reading and math programs. The Chromebooks would be used to help them read and record books and I would use the LCD projector to project the student's favorite books on the screen for the entire class to see. My students are learning at different levels so with these items, each child will get the chance to use them to help support their learning. These items will be used by them personally to help them reach new levels of learning.

Any donations I receive for this project will give my students encouragement to use technology not for just games, but for making projects, checking emails and making presentations.

Last year, I had my class do state presentations but with the projector and Chromebook, they will be able to show pictures of the state to the entire class while doing their presentations. I believe speaking in front of groups helps boost their self-esteem.
