Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many students come to my class celebrating many different holidays and beliefs. Students often say to each other, "Why don't you celebrate Christmas?" or "Why do they celebrate the dragon?" I want to extend my students learning of cultures by creating cross curriculum art projects each month.

I teach 24 Kindergarten students in an inclusion classroom from across three continents (North America, Asia, and South America).

We are a Title One school and 93% of the students receive free/reduce breakfast and/or lunch. Many families work two jobs and speak multiple languages.

My Project

Get ready to discover art from around the world! Students will make cool multicultural creations as they learn more about the world around them. Students will create art projects which foster their curiosity while learning about different countries. The multicultural paper will be used to learn about students' cultures. The craft sticks and scissors will be used during literacy to make a storybook theatre. The origami paper will be used during our discussion of China and make good fortune boxes. The watercolor pencils and Sharpies will be used to make and introduce the legend of the rain stick. The tablets will be used to Skype and meet their E-pals to complete art projects collaboratively from other countries. The tablets will also be used to do research and display different countries where the students will see pictures and learn facts.

Children are naturally curious about what other children and families are doing.

I want to capitalize on their natural curiosity to teach them about other cultures. Join me in helping them increase their fine and gross motor skills as they are learning about others through art. Thanks for your support!
