Using Technology to Unpack Feelings in Therapy

My Project

My students love coming to school every day. They are eager to see their friends, spend time with their teachers, and learn new things. All of my students are receiving counseling services to support them in developing social-emotional regulation skills. While they may have difficulties with communicating and coping with their emotions, they are absolute wizards with technology. My school was fortunate enough to have an iPad funded last year (Thank you, DonorsChoose!) and it has been such an incredibly useful tool in our counseling program. We are hoping to get a second iPad funded so that both of our counseling offices and all of our students that participate in services will have access to this resource.

During counseling sessions, students will use the iPad to support them in recognizing and labeling emotions, practicing coping tools, working on frustration tolerance, and reviewing social skills and problem solving strategies.

My students have really benefited from the extra practice that they can get through activities like Boom Cards. They love choosing deep breathing strategies on apps like GoNoodle. The students also love having choice in exploring their interests and sharing what they learn with the counselor and their peers.

Thank you so much for supporting this project! I know that our counseling program will utilize this resource for years to come.
