This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Most of the students in my class are struggling with reading. These students come from homes where there are no daily reading experiences due to the lack of reading materials in the home such as books, magazines, newspaper and the use of a computer.
My students are dedicated learners that are living in an urban school district where the chances to succeed requires substantial support from family members, teachers, and peers.
The requested materials will allow my students to improve their reading comprehension skills.
My Project
I am requesting an overhead projector along with magnetic upper and lower case letters to teach word recognition skills and sentence building which will help the students to become good readers. The daily hands-on materials reinforce basic reading skills and many opportunities for the students to improve in reading.
Your kind generosity will allow my students to develop a good and growing vocabulary by providing them with "hands-on experiences." The students will understand the process of how word families are used to build new words.
The students will later make a connection to the words by reading the words from a text or from the white board with the use of the projector to build comprehension skill.
