This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first graders have such a strong desire to learn. Every morning they come in with a smile on their face ready to start their school day. They are eager students wanting to learn new things. Knowing they want to learn makes me feel accomplished because I know they are enjoying school, rather than feeling forced to learn. I love that my students are not only interested in learning, but they have created a great classroom environment which allows everyone to be themselves.

My Project

My students will benefit from an individual CD player because they will be able to listen to a read aloud . By having an individual CD player, they won’t be distracted by their neighbors sharing the same device. It’s important they are listening to a read aloud because many students don’t get this time of exposure at home. They may not have access to books, parents may not speak English, or their families don’t have the time to read to them. When a child is exposed to a read aloud they are able to learn new vocabulary and are able to become better readers because they are seeing how unknown words are said.
