My students need materials to create a stage including a curtain, materials for prop making, face paints, and two iPads to film their productions and make them into movies.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Sitting still and reading stories is one part of a classroom, but retelling stories and making productions is a way to make story telling come alive! My students want action and learn better by making stories come alive, eventually even presenting their productions on DVDs to their families.
My students attend a Title 1 school where most of the students are on free or reduced price lunches.
They are mostly English Language Learners who bring excitement to learning every day. My school pushes students to reach their full potential by making learning hands on and engaging, however we lack funding to continue our many great traditions which always included the arts in our learning.
My Project
My students read many fairy tales throughout the year as part of our Common Core Standards. We re-tell the stories, recreate our own versions and share them in book form. This year I wish to bring our fairy tales to life. We would use the art materials to create the stage for my students to perform in Reader's Theater and small stage productions in the classroom. We will use the iPads to film, edit and create iMovies that will be burned onto DVDs and sent home for families to enjoy. We will also involve our 6th grade buddy class in the movie making as they will help guide my 2nd graders on using the iMovie app and teach them production skills. This is a great way to promote community and team building.
This project will help my students build comprehension as they dive deeper into characterization and story mapping.
They will also work on their writing skills as they write their own versions of classic fairy tales. Then they will build their language skills as they practice their lines. Furthermore, they will use technology skills as they create movies. Most importantly though, it is a great way to infuse the arts and working together on a final product.
