Using Robotics to Enrich the First Grade Standards
My students need to learn 21st century skills. I plan to integrate robotics in with my daily lessons. Through Ozobot, Dash, and Dot I plan to have my first graders work coding and collaboration.
My first graders have come together at this brand new STEAM school in Berkeley County, just outside of Charleston, South Carolina to create and become creators. They are growing and learning in a school community that has only been open for 2 years. They are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners. They are mini inspirations to themselves and others around them, even if they don't know it yet. My students come from diverse backgrounds in an area steeped in both historic traditions and a booming growth of high tech industry. They are high tech learners and are so quick to pick up on new and innovative technologies! They are even coming up with ways to use robotics to learn math and show understanding of reading!
My Project
Everyday access to kid-friendly robots like Dash and Dot, Ozobot, and Sphero will help our 21st century learners to develop stronger critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills while also enabling them use hands-on practices to learn math, science, engineering and English Language Arts content!
These robots will help inspire our first graders to design, create, and explore with coding and robotics.
For example, we will use Dash to explain and explore the life cycle of plants. They will have the ability to think outside of the box and create next generation projects that will prepare them for life in the digital age! I can't wait to see what they can do!
