Using Puzzles and Blocks to Build Skills

My Project

There are certain basic skills that are the foundations to so many other crucial skills needed in life. Visual-spatial skills are one of those skills. Visual-spatial skills is the ability to perceive, process, and manipulate visual information and spatial relationships. People need visual spatial skills to use maps, following directions, and knowing where things are in relation to each other. They need these skills to arrange items in a logical way (like organizing a room or creating a collage). It also helps in so much more.

Children with varying abilities need many opportunities to build these skills as well as practice the skills they already have.

Building using varying types of blocks provides students opportunities to develop these skills and allows for hours of fun as what they can do is endless. Children who are already proficient as these skills find it enjoyable to display these skills with puzzles. An assortment of puzzles with various amount of pieces provides children with variety and opportunities to have fun. It is important to have opportunities for students to keep puzzles organized with clear containers that will keep the fun going for years.
