This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Title I school, meaning that many students who live at/below the poverty level attend our campus. We service many different ethnic groups. Mexican, South American, Arab, and African American make up most of our population. Most students receive free or reduced price lunch and many come in tired, hungry and wearing inadequate clothing for uniform requirements. Students don't have the same access to books, motor development opportunities like using scissors, crayons, etc. or academic areas at home. Parents attend parenting classes in summer and our school offers ESOL classes to parents. Our students deserve the same opportunities to grow and develop as those who live in middle class families.

My Project

Early coding, or precoding, offers children experiences that integrate communication, thinking, and problem solving. These are 21st century skills that are valuable for children's future success in our digital world. There are many learning activities preschool children already engage in that relate to coding.

I include coding in my STEM or Science/Tech center.

It is always tied to a current unit of study, creating constructive thinkers, age 4-5. In a school filled with poverty, it is important that we teach these topics while the neurons and dendrites of the brain, both grow and form.

I am asking for products include small storage and a coding kit, with approved lessons by National Association for the Education of Young Children.
