Using Legos To Create Settings For Writing Amazing Stories.
My students need the LEGOs Rescue Services Set, an Education Space and Airport Set, an Education Fairytale and Historic Minifigures Set and others to inspire them to create settings for their stories written during writing workshop. They will also be used to develop fine motor skills.
Writing a story can be challenging. It's why we've heard terms like "writer's block". Now give a child some LEGOS to create a 3-dimensional setting for their story and we have planted some inspiration along with that perspiration.
Year after year, I have far more boys than I do girls.
This year, I have 18 boys and only 14 girls. The boys have been lobbying for LEGOS for years. I have been wanting to incorporate LEGOs into my classroom, but only if I could find productive ways to use LEGOS with my reading and writing workshops. I finally determined they could all create settings for the stories that they would be writing in Writing Workshop. These incredible authors would get a chance to help develop these settings that were built by their own hand. Brilliant!
My Project
My students need LEGOs Rescue Services Set, Education Space and Airport Set, Education Fairytale and Historic Minifigures Set, and others to inspire them to create settings for their stories written during writing workshop. They will also be used to develop fine motor skills. A story usually begins with a picture in your mind. I want my students to be able to take that picture and recreate it with LEGOS. LEGOS build imagination and improve spatial skills. They teach students about 3D representations and give them free reign to create what they see in the story they are writing. My students will be creating a setting to accompany their stories.
My students have been asking me about getting LEGOS for years.
I was excited about the prospect of bringing them into the classroom! They will create these settings that will then turn into stories written by the blossoming authors in my class. I am so excited to see what develops from a pile of disconnected LEGOS. I guess I will just have to wait and see.
