I teach eighth grade math to a broad range of learners. I have students that are high flyers and move through the curriculum easily. I also have students that need me to go above and beyond to help them in their learning.
I am always willing to go that extra mile for my students.
Whether its developing an enrichment activity so my higher level learners are challenged or differentiating the instruction so my lower level students can feel accomplished. I have students that don't have running water e or heat at home because their families can't pay the bills and I have some students that have a backup iPad in case their batteries die.
My classroom is very diverse and I always strive to meet the needs of all my students regardless of their background. The task has been proven difficult, but there is no better feeling than the feeling you get when a student feels important. My students are hard workers and take every opportunity to challenge themselves to be better learners and model citizens.
My Project
The requested materials will help students to create and explore the mathematics curriculum. These materials will help create interactive notebooks, keep student work organized and allow them to participate in whiteboard practice. I used these teaching strategies in class and found them to be a VERY effective instructional strategies. The road block I have come across every year are students not being able to afford the materials. With your help, students would be able to have access to all the materials. A small portion of the supplies will be used to help the students create their interactive notebooks. These supplies include the markers, composition notebooks and and pencil pouches. Most of the supplies will be used for the students and families in need. I hope that by providing school supplies for families, we can alleviate the stress that the families feel when it comes to financial expenses. I have had phone calls with parents who are in tears because they cannot provide their children with what they need for school. I always do my best to provide them with anything and everything they need however, the cost can get expensive since I'm also on a limited budget. I always strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment. I don't want any student to feel left out due to financial issues.
