Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a librarian, I know that for many of my 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, a 300-page novel feels more like a wall than a window. My students are brilliant, navigating life in Spanish, Mixteco, and English, but traditional text-heavy books can be intimidating for those still building their English confidence. Many of these preteens haven't been "pulled in" by reading yet because they haven't found a story that meets them where they are.

Graphic novels are the magic ingredient we’ve been missing!

For our multilingual learners, the art provides a "visual bridge" to the text, allowing them to decode complex emotions and fast-paced plots without getting lost in a sea of words. These books offer an immediate "win", that incredible feeling of finishing a book and wanting the next one. By providing these stories in both English and Spanish, we are filling a critical gap for our lower-level readers, turning "I can't read this" into "I can't put this down!" Your support helps us transform the library into a place where every student, no matter their reading level, can find their way into a great story!
