My Project
My Freshman English classes include numerous English Language Learners of varying levels, as well as students with disabilities affecting reading and writing. I am looking for ways to support their understanding of complex course texts and increase engagement in class. They love graphic novels, and this adaptation of The Odyssey features beautiful visuals alongside accessible poetic language!
These graphic novels will supplement our textbook version of The Odyssey.
The images and modernized text aid struggling readers and English Language Learners in understanding the plot of the story. This base knowledge and ability to visualize the scenes enables students to better interpret and analyze the complex language of the original text. Graphic novels also provide opportunities for all students, regardless of reading level or English proficiency, to analyze how classic literature can be adapted in multiple forms for modern audiences.
