Using Games to Learn Math!

My students need various mathematics centers to help foster their love of learning.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Provence's classroom raised $343

This project is fully funded

Mathematics is compiled of many different concepts. Some of these concepts are patterns, measurement, geometry, statistics, and probability. These concepts are often unfamiliar, abstract, and confusing to students. Children can easily understand some of these concepts and others take time and practice until they are understood. We need to help children develop the ability and confidence to find their way around in each of these areas. They need to be able to see how they connect, and know what to do should they forget a fact or procedure. One way to achieve this ability and confidence is through play. Games have been around a long time. Companies have now begun to make various games that can be used in the classroom to teach the many mathematical concepts my students need to learn. There are games that help students to reinforce the concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, time and fractions for example. These games not only allow students hours of fun in an otherwise regimented day but they also allow for hours of beneficial learning and reinforcement. My students need various mathematics centers to help foster their love of learning. I am a fourth grade teacher in a New York City Public School. With the budget cuts that are constantly over our heads, our school is unable to purchase enrichment tools like these games. Please help me bring these games into my fourth grade classroom. Hopefully the fun and laughter my students experience while playing these wonderful games will only add to their learning experiences.
