This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Grabbing kids' attention is key to helping them engage and learn! These books have comic adaptations to key elements in science and in history. They are perfect for buddy learners and truly allow a differentiation of learning to happen! The colorful illustrations draw students in and the factual information will help make connections to the curriculum. Deepening content knowledge is key for students to grow in comprehension. All too often it is a struggle to help them see how concepts connect, but this author has done it! I am a librarian that works with 500 students. I have created a program that allows me to support our core curriculum and I strive to incorporate as many history and science topics as I can in our lessons.

Many of my students struggle to maintain reading in long excerpts, but can quickly be drawn in with a comic adaptation.

These books allow me to grab attention, engage with a content rich fact and continue expanding their learning through our weekly lessons. I love seeing the learning that happens once kids get hooked! I love hearing the rich conversations as book buddies begin their conversations. Having partner sets of these books in these key core subjects will enhance the learning for the kids as well as my teaching. I have a unique opportunity to teach all 500-520 students, but it takes a village to obtain all the tools I need!
