Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I like to incorporate art into other subjects because art engages. When my students are creating, they are learning. Art empowers students and helps make learning fun.
My students are an active, lively bunch.
They love to collaborate with each other. I teach 26 first graders at a public school in LA County. Some come from single parent homes, some come from two parent homes. Some are native English speakers, some are not. Several have special needs. They are an inquisitive group that loves to create and learn.
My Project
We are beginning a new unit in Science about Plants. We will be learning about the parts of a plant - flowers, leaves, stems and roots. This unit is perfect for incorporating art into. I know my students would love to make flowers out of tissue paper and use rubbing plates to see the different flowers and leaves that appear. I know they will all be engaged and will not only learn, but will have fun learning.
