Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
While listening to stories from multicultural literature, students will gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the similarities and differences they share with children from around the world. This grant will offer my students the opportunity to compare literature from different cultures.
Each and every child has some artistic abilities.
In some these grow extensively and in others it needs to be continuous nourished. The primary use for the resources I requested will be to inspire kids to write by employing the use of art and technology. A classroom printer will allow my students immediate feedback, as they progress in publishing their work.
My Project
My goal is to make writing a fun and effortless process for my students. The broad impact of this project is to have my student leave my classroom with a general understanding of generating ideas and getting them down on paper, while at the same time learning and sharing about diverse cultures. The end product of their efforts will be an autobiography, which will include their illustrations and family research. I have requested a printer which will be used by my classroom to print pictures and words to include in their stories.
I have requested the following books: Lon Po Po; Tea With Milk; and Pretty Salma.
I will use these books to help my students gain an understanding of the Chinese, Japanese, and African culture through read alouds. Student will be creating art work related to these stories. They will also use the books to create story maps. Students will summarize what they have learned about these cultures and compare them to their own culture as an assessment of their learning.
