Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I would love for my students to get rid of me by motivating them to practice their speech therapy goals with more intensity!
My students attend a Title 1 school, with the majority of them speaking another language (other than English) in their homes.
All of the students that attend our wonderful school, live in the neighborhood surrounding it. However due to the socioeconomic status of the great majority of the families, we do not receive much if any financial support from our parents. The schools PTA uses its funds to supplement instructional materials and for scholarships for students to attend field trips and camps when they are unable to afford it.
My Project
I recently starting using my personal iPad with my students as a reward at first. Once I saw how motivated they were I started to research "apps" and other resources available to use for actual therapy. The possibilities are ENDLESS! The kids are very excited and motivated to do the things they HATED to do before (like articulation drills (saying a problem sound over and over and over) and expanding sentences/structures). I hope that with the iPod Touch that I can start recording the students as they practice and play it back to them so that they can see their progress and develop carry over skills. I also will use the devices to keep all students highly engaged, with high intensity individual practice in hopes that I can shorten their time in speech therapy.
Please consider supporting my project.
It is a great opportunity to expose my students to technology that they would otherwise not have a chance to access, as well as providing them with a highly motivational tool to help them correct their speech and language impairments!
