My students need a comforting rug that draws them to a safe and inviting place to explore our classroom library. The rug and globe are a great addition to making learning fun.
We are a group of elementary and middle school children, with over half of our student population receiving free or reduced price meals. We are a Title I school with a very diverse population; many from the Air Force base a few doors down. Since we serve one of the largest Air Force base in the world, our school directly supports the military mission in our area.
These students can feel isolated, due to constant changes from parents coming and going.
Many of these military families have both parents serving our country. While these students are displaced frequently, another group of students in our school are homeless. Many students experience substance abuse in the home, trauma and poverty.
Our school community, which feels like family, also has the second largest population of specials needs , ESE children. Therefore, our diverse population of bright and resilient children deserve the best and most comfortable learning environment possible.
My Project
Our classroom needs a place set apart to explore the many wonders of books. The United States of America rug provides comfort but also a great learning tool to visualize the states locations. The rug and globe together will bring our ESE/EBD students together in a fun and inviting space. Our students should be granted the best learning tools and environment possible.
Many of our military students have stories of where they have lived and the amazing adventures; things others can learn and be inspired from.
The map on the rug and globe will be a great addition to our daily lessons of our diverse population at our school from military to international students.
