My students are from East New York and are hungry to learn new perspectives, challenge their own beliefs and want to become informed citizens. They are mostly visual learners who just soak up the information presented to them in a fun and engaging way. While each of them has their own personality, as individual classes they bring an inquisitive nature to their learning and a bit of spunk. Our school is in its 3rd-year as a high school and is building up resources that students can use to further explore content. Since literacy and reading are so important, bringing new experiences will broaden their horizons.
By giving my student this expansive library, they will be able to get a broader view of American History, as well as look at historical time periods in depth. AP US history requires students to have a deep understanding of US history to prepare them for the AP Exam. Wanting to expose my students to as many historians as possible, as well as different points of view on history and the time periods within US History, I am looking to grow my library of books. Since this is a college level class, students need to see how historians make connections between events and time periods. This library would help them a great deal.
