This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project will provide grid notebooks and supplies to that will be used throughout the year to make observations about the urban wildlife my students find on our campus and at home. My students will complete nature scavenger hunts that will have them slow down and hopefully see the trees, other vegetation, and fauna found on our campus, and hopefully see it a little differently and not take them for granted.

To begin appreciating our world sometimes we need to take a closer look at our immediate environment and not take it for granted.

There is wildlife in the inner city, and I would like for my students to do nature scavenger hunts, collect data, and graph their findings. The children books will be displayed in our classroom and accessible to students when they are looking for something to read during library time; some will be used for whole group reading and guided discussion to help them process what they are learning. The book on how to reduce plastic waste will allow us to segue way into what we can each do to help care for the environment, while the book on nature art will serve as inspiration to create artwork that will showcase my students learning.
