Urban Agriculture-- City Kids Get Growing!

Help me give my students materials to learn about urban agriculture, including a classroom hydroponic garden!

My Project

My students live in beautiful south Minneapolis-- within a mix of urban city culture and diverse natural biomes. My high school students with disabilities are lucky to live within walking distance of a variety of environments, including city parks, prairie grasslands, deciduous forests, and coniferous forests. They also exist in a densely populated urban area, which means people and pollution.

I am excited for my students to improve their mental health by learning grounding techniques rooted in nature, and to strengthen their connection to the environment.

The items for my classroom including a hydroponic garden, where we can grow herbs in our own classroom! The nonfiction books will help build our classroom library and connect specifically to my students' unique cultural backgrounds.

My students have experienced food scarcity and "food deserts," especially during the 2020 pandemic and racial uprising in our neighborhood. Many have expressed interest in growing their own food and learning how to feel closer to our land.
