This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are so important to me. They are great kids who have to deal with a lot of things in their lives. I like to help them push through the negative and remain positive. The middle school students are at the point in their lives where they need to find the direction they want to head in their lives. Many of them will make choices soon that will impact the rest of their lives. That is why I like teaching them life lessons that will push them in the right direction physically.

The current workout room is a work in progress and I would love some extra workout equipment to teach them the proper way to workout.

I currently have a few things like stretchy bands, dumbbells, and medicine balls, but I would love to expand on these. The students need to be able to exercise properly to get the best benefits from it. That is why I like to teach them the proper way to use certain equipment so they can build on it in the future.

My Project

My students are very good runners and have very strong legs. I think this is due to their love of soccer. That is why my focus has become to push them to increase their arm strength. The last two years I have tried to do this through a variety of activities, but it all circles back to one of the best arm strength exercises which is push-ups. Many of the students struggle with getting low enough when they practice the push-ups, and no matter how many times I tell them to get lower they struggle.

That is where these mats would come in handy because they force the students to touch their chest on the cushion before exploding up.

I have used pull noodles for this but the mats also help with proper hand positioning. It would be greatly appreciated if you could donate to these mats becoming a reality to our school. They would help me push the students to increase our upper body strength.
