My students need a listening center that is simple to use. My students need nonfiction books to have read to them. My students need fiction books to listen to, as well.
My students are eager to learn and love being read to! They get so exciting when we are reading and learning new things. This project will give them another opportunity to be read to during literacy centers. It will also help improve their fluency and expose them to more literature and knowledge!
I teach in one of the highest poverty level schools.
All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. I currently teach a first grade inclusion class. My class consists of ten male students and seven female students. All of them love being read to and get so excited about what they are learning while reading!
My Project
I am working on creating a literacy center for my students. We currently do not have one. This basic machine will be simple for the students to operate and will be perfect for the listening center I put in another project. I am hoping to create a comfortable area in the room where the students can go and have a book read to them.
I'm hoping with a good listening center, the students will be able to go and listen to a book as one of their literacy centers.
I chose nonfiction and fiction books because we teach both of these genres in first grade. Not only will this expose them to more books and knowledge, but it will help with their fluency, as well.
