Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our robotics team's goal for 2020 is to spread their passion for STEM to their community and beyond! "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." -B. Franklin

Our Robotics Team 968 has won 8 Regionals, 1 Championship, Engineering Inspiration Award, and countless other awards, but we have our eyes set on the prestigious Chairman's Award.

We strive to provide high school students with opportunities to experience real-world engineering through robotics. It's especially meaningful because our school serves a diverse demographic. Many of our students will be the first in their family to attend 4-year institution as well. We not only give an outlet to our brightest students but also give one to those that are hardworking and have aspirations. Every year, our students are given 6 weeks to build a robot to fulfill a task at the competition. As the varsity sport for the mind, our FRC Robotics team competes in the excitement of sport, with the rigors of science and technology. We challenge our students to build and program a robot to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. It’s as close to "real-world engineering" as a student can.

My Project

With a new monitor, we will have more resources to showcase and instruct more of our fellow students. By having more resources, we will be able to provide them all with an in-depth learning experience. Having the ability to work on our projects with industry-leading monitors will allow us to create our projects using the same technology as professionals. This allows students to effectively create engaging collaborative discussions and showcase their engineering projects to teammates and industry professionals. In addition, our students' projects require precision tools to assemble and troubleshoot their work. These needle-nose pliers will aid our students as they work on the STEM capstones a FRC robot.

We will work as a team, meeting challenges creatively and collaboratively, all while using STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) related skills.

Perhaps more importantly than the hands-on experience, our non-technology skills we will develop, such as improved leadership, problem-solving, and everyday life skills that will prepare us for our futures.

At the end of the day, it will be more than building robots and more than building our skills; it will be about sharing our story. Sharing what we are capable of doing and allowing us to inspire others in our community that by working together, we solve problems and build great things!

We would have applied engineering, science, math, and technology to solve complex, open-ended problems in a real-world context. All the while, developing highly transferable skills in collaboration, communication, and critical thinking, which are relevant for STEM careers. Please help provide resources that can help us become the next generation of STEM professionals. We would be actively promoting STEM within our community starting in our own high school now with the ability to document our activities and progress.
