Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach sixth, seventh, and eighth graders at a magnet middle school that has a mix of magnet and zoned students. I teach technology elective classes that focus on media and design. The majority of my students are from low-income households and from very diverse backgrounds.
My students love technology and being creative.
However, many of these students do not have access to technology outside of school. I try to make opportunities for my students to create projects based on real-world careers in technology and media.
My Project
My classes focus on hands-on, STEM-based problem solving projects. Using real world scenarios, students design and build prototypes to solve problems.
My goal is to encourage students to pursue technology-related careers through investigating secondary and post-secondary career pathways in media arts and technology while covering the standards for science.
Through the use of makerspace technology, such as 3D printers, filament, tools and sewing supplies, students can bring their engineering lessons to life and become engaged in skill building tasks. The items requested in this project will help students to immerse themselves in STEM learning.
