Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

About My Students

The students submitting this project are part of our school's dual language program who share a passion for their school library. Their names are Alex and Kyle, and they are in the seventh grade. These students are thinking globally and acting locally, and they are ready to help make our school a better place.

These young men are community builders who want to improve their school. They are involved in many activities on campus and believe in cultural awareness, unity, and kindness. There is a lot of leadership and motivation in this duo! They both love reading and want to bring more students into the library by hosting events such as game days and wii dance parties in the Library Media Center.

My students are studying how art reflects values. They are using their Language Arts skills to write grants that reflect their own personal values. These boys value literacy, education, and entertainment, and they hope to use their persuasive writing to convince you to support their grant that provides resources to make our library even better. In preparing this project students are using 21st century skills of critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. They are working together with our librarian to think of ways to bring more students into our Library Media Center. Thank you for taking the time to read their grant. In Their Own Words

We want to make our library the center of our school. We think that if more people come to the library, the more they will become interested in reading. Our library has some good books, but we want to bring more people in to check them out. We believe that can make the library a better place for kids by supplying a Wii console, board games, and chargers to our library. We will host game/trivia events at lunch and after school and plan dance revolution days using the Wii. Our goal is to make the library an even more popular place and hopefully get more kids into the wonderful world of words.

We are already making this project happen by talking with our librarian and writing this grant. When the materials arrive, we will take it to the library and make sure it's all there. We will also try to lead students to use these materials properly. We hope to lead game/trivia days at lunch using the board games.

This project is important to us because we value the library, and we want to make it an enjoyable place to be during lunch. We also want to help students learn to love books and want to be in the library. Our library is a safe place for students to hang out, and with these resources, it will be fun, too!
