Updating Technology For The 21st Century

My Students

When students walk in to my room each day, they hear a current, upbeat song specifically chosen to amp up their energy and prepare themselves for learning. That learning increasingly involves the use of technology.

My classroom is populated with a diverse group of students, in terms of ethnicity, socioeconomic status, religion, and personal interests.

The staff at my school works diligently to engage students in their learning experiences in a respectful environment. We continue to work to create an environment where students interact with each other in a way that shows that they value each other.

My Project

I am requesting materials to create a new technology work station in my classroom. While I am fortunate to have some technology in my classroom already, technology becomes obsolete very quickly. With the new HP EliteBook laptop, HP color laser jet, speakers, a pointer, and a few wireless mice, I hope to update some key hardware to make the work station functional for students so they can create projects which can be presented and/or displayed in print form. For example, there will be some high quality software loaded on to the laptop which will allow students to edit and manipulate charts, graphs, and photographs which they will then incorporate into digital films and power point presentations. The presentations will require guided note sheets which they will create, print, and distribute to classmates. They also will involve print design boards which will be mounted on the walls. The laptop will be able to easily sync with the classroom projector and will also be connected to the speakers.

Having access to current technology best prepares students for life outside the classroom.

Using updated hardware trains students with skills that will most easily transfer to post-high school life as well. Teenagers are used to the latest technology. Currently, some students work on projects at home but can not continue working on them at school because the hardware here doesn't support their programs. Thus, updating technology will make a huge difference in the classroom!
