My students need a Van De Graaf generator, radiation meter with radioactivity source set, hand protectors, dialysis tubing, dropper bottles, test tubes with racks, funnels, mitosis and meiosis kits, osmosis and diffusion kits, and cell models.
Approximately 75% of the students at our school receive free or reduced-price lunch, and we have a high number of military families. There is an amazing group of hard working young adults in my class. They strive every day to do their best and succeed. Their goals and dreams are to achieve a high school diploma and go to college.
These students take any obstacle in their path head-on and don't let it slow them down.
These students overcome so many different setbacks during their time in school.
My Project
My students are a unique blend of individuals from different backgrounds including homelessness, poverty and military families. They strive each day to be successful and not let anything stand in their way of getting an education to better their future. Our STEM lab is where they love to work all the time doing hands-on activities, investigations, and research labs, yet we have a limited amount of supplies and resources which cuts down of the amount of activities my students can do. With this project I am requesting new resources they have never used before and some to replace ours that is broken and used up. I am requesting a Van De Graaf generator to allow my students the amazing opportunity to learn about electricity. The radiation meter and radioactivity source kit will be used to teach my student first hand about radiation, isotopes, and radioactive decay. The test tubes, racks, hand protectors, weigh dishes, dialysis tubing, funnels, dropper bottles and microtubes will be used to replace some broken items in our lab and to restock what we have run out of. The osmosis/diffusion kit and mitosis/meiosis kits will allow my students to be engaged first hand with these concepts while learning. The animal behavior and six kingdom kits will enhance our unit in biology on these topics. The simple machines and force/motion kits will be used during our physics units. All of the resources will have a huge impact on how my students continue to learn through hands-on activities in our STEM lab. Thank you for considering to support my students through this project.
