Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students need help in knowing what is going on in the world. Sometimes it is difficult to stay atop current events without the necessary materials.
I have 21 students in my bilingual class.
Our school is in a high poverty area that has been around for many years. Some of my students have dealt with situations that inhibit their world views and I would like to help them change that by providing updated nonfiction text.
My Project
My students are interested in learning about our world and current events. However, sometimes life situations prohibit the ability for them to do so. With the TIME For Kids weekly classroom news magazine that motivates kids to read, I may be able to help open their minds and hearts to situations not known to them. Issues cover a wide range of real-world topics and themes kids love to learn about. Along with expanding their knowledge of the world, they can become better readers.
I also believe that organization is a key skill that should be taught and used. By helping our class obtain the materials necessary they will acquire the always useful organizational skills that can be used in any aspect of their lives.
With help from people that want to make a real difference my students will get the opportunity to learn about current events happening in our world that they may otherwise never know.
Our materials need to be updated and with a TIME for Kids subscription, that may be the difference for children to view the world differently.
