This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are very excited about learning and love using technology. I currently have 2 very outdated computers (10+ years) that are very hard for my students to use because there just isn't enough memory. Headphones will keep things quiet for those who are working on other projects.
I have the most fantastic students in 4th grade!
They love to learn despite attending a Title 1, inner city school where 100% of the student body qualifies for free breakfast and lunch. Our student body is comprised of mostly Hispanic and African American students. Many of our Hispanic students are second language learners.
Our school funding is very limited when it comes to technology and it has been slow to come our way. My classroom currently has 2 very outdated computers (10+ years) that are on their last legs and do not have the memory to support many of the online educational games that I would love my students to play during their center rotation time. Many of my students do not have computers at home so my classroom is the only place that they will have access to them.
My Project
I do my best to incorporate technology in my lessons. For the past several years I have been extremely limited in what I could teach my students because of the antiquated computers. The two new computers will help my students to conduct research, learn how to put that research into a slide presentation and allow them to access educational games and web sites.
I also have some very low readers in my class that will benefit greatly from some of the educational reading sites. They will be able to access them during our center rotation time. The headphones will help my students to hear the audio while keeping things quiet for the rest of the class. My printer needs toner to help with printing the research information and finally my pencil sharpener needs a new cutter. I have to keep the pencils sharpened for my math geniuses!
The new Common Core Standards are designed to help the students to be college and career ready.
The new updated computers will help my students to be more prepared for college or a career after high school because they are learning to use updated technology, improving their research skills, and learning how to navigate the Internet. Computer skills are necessary in today's workforce and I plan to prepare my students well.
