My students walk through the door every morning with a positive attitude, love for learning, and eagerness to begin a new day! I want them to know that they are capable of great things and that they can be anything they want to be. They are mathematicians, readers, authors, scientists, historians, and explorers. But in a noisy world, I want them to know that most of all, they are heard.
I work in a large school where the backgrounds, abilities, and needs of my students are extremely diverse.
Some of my students are living in poverty, while others are still learning English. Some are reading many levels above grade level, while others have behavior struggles. However, one thing rings true for all of my 22 students - they love learning and they want to be the very best version of themselves. My students set personal and academic goals for themselves and they work extremely hard every year to achieve their goals.
My Project
For the past eight years, we have been using the same whiteboards to show our thinking and to use during whole group and small group instruction. These boards have shown a lot of wear and tear. They have chips and are getting harder and harder to erase. We also need to get up for every supply we may need. My students do not have desks so they keep all their notebooks and folders in a cubby on the other side of the room. The chair pockets would be a perfect place to store these materials so that we are not using precious learning time getting our things.
These materials would improve our learning and will help us use our time wisely in the classroom.
