Upcycled Mini Golf Course Design and STEM Engagement

Help me give my students the opportunity to design and build a mini golf course using upcycled materials, fostering teamwork, creativity, and STEM skills during a week-long summer camp.

My Project

I am seeking funding to create an engaging and educational experience for Grade 4 and 5 students through a week-long after-school STEM camp during the summer. Students will work collaboratively to design and construct a mini golf course using upcycled cardboard materials. This project not only promotes teamwork and creativity but also integrates important STEM concepts and computer science skills.

My project goals are as follows...

Collaborative Learning: Students will work together to design their mini golf holes, fostering teamwork and communication skills.

Hands-on STEM Education: Through the engineering design process (EDP), students will apply critical thinking to create functional and fun golf holes.

Family Engagement: Lower grade students in summer school will be invited to play the mini golf course, providing valuable feedback to the “course owners” and enhancing community involvement.

Integration of Computer Science: By utilizing micro:bits, students will incorporate moving parts into their golf holes, merging creativity with technology.

The funds requested will be used to purchase materials that will enable students to decorate and enhance their mini golf holes independently and creatively. This will include safe decorating supplies, tools, and other resources necessary for the project.

This project represents an exciting opportunity for students to apply STEM concepts in a fun and engaging way while fostering community involvement and family engagement. Your support through this DonorsChoose grant will make a significant difference in the educational experience of our students, allowing them to learn valuable skills that extend beyond the classroom.
