This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students often come from a harsh environment. They are middle schoolers that come by bus from "The Projects" of eastern Durham. It is challenging to teach my students at times since students come from homes that have limited structure, or even other teachers and schools for that matter lack research behavior management strategies for challenging students.

Nonetheless today’s students have grown up in an age of “green” choices.

In Green Architecture students learn how to apply this concept to the fields of architecture and construction by exploring dimensioning, measuring, and architectural sustainability as they design affordable housing units using 3D architectural design software. Students will also use hands on tools to build sample mini structures. They will use architectural scale rulers and templates on graph paper to make architectural drawings prior to using software.

Over the last several years, a lot of emphasis has been placed on going green. In addition to encouraging individuals to change their habits so that the results will be more environmentally friendly, there has also been a push to design buildings to be more green. Sustainable architecture seeks to minimize the negative environmental impact of buildings by enhancing efficiency and moderation in the use of materials, energy, and development space. The goal of sustainability, or ecological design, is to ensure that our actions and decisions today do not inhibit the opportunities of future generations
