My Students

The 27 students in my first grade classroom are diverse in every aspect and enjoy learning in our International Baccalaureate school. Students range from diverse learners to students reading at a 3rd grade level. Socio-economic levels range from Title I students to well off. My students come from all over the world. My goal is to develop knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through respect.

Their enthusiasm for learning is contagious as they navigate first grade.

Everything is new and wonderful, eye-opening and amazing, awe-inspiring, and exciting. Their openness to new ideas and developing a sense of empathy make first grade the best grade to teach. As a school experiencing community-led change, social-emotional learning is embedded in all instruction throughout the day.

My Project

My class has been so fortunate to have a one-to-one iPad cart but unfortunately, the iPads are so old they no longer update to allow the students access to the platforms and apps that are essential for learning today. Last year I was able to get enough iPads for the students that returned to school. We need 7 more for everyone to have a designated iPad!

One to one iPads will make a world of difference in my classroom as well as help to meet CDC guidelines for safety as we return to in-person learning.

These new iPads would provide all students including ESL students, diverse learners, and struggling students access to important programs like Epic!, Zearn, Adobe Spark and others used to differentiate and support classroom instruction, foster creativity, and learn digital citizenship skills. It would provide equity to learning for those who will need extra support. All students would also have access to the developmentally appropriate platform SeeSaw for completing and submitting work.
