My Project

Up close instruction is such a special part of the classroom. Being a departmentalized teacher that only teaches math and science, I get to work in small groups with my students during math quite often. My problem is, I haven’t figured out a good way to get that same special instruction with my science lessons. This project is a step in the right direction to give me the tools to accomplish that goal of mine.

Small group teaching time is fundamental to children’s learning.

Whenever you are sitting across a table from a student, you get to see how their brain is looking at a problem. You can give them tips and tricks to help get them over that area they have been struggling with when working independently. You get to reinforce ideas and topics so you, as the teacher, can feel confident that your students know the material. I love having this time with my students but I unfortunately don’t have a great place in my classroom to hold these moments. Being able to have a table where multiple students can sit around it at once, would be amazing for my lessons.

I am asking for the severe weather science books to use during science small group lessons. In Texas, we are getting new science TEKS, our standards, for the upcoming school year. Severe weather is a brand new topic we will be discussing. I do not have many things for this topic in my classroom, so having these books would create a wonderful jumping off point to allow me to come up with engaging small group lessons.
