This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a very boisterous, creative, loving group of 5-11 year olds. As the science teacher for grades K-5, I have the opportunity to see every child in our building. From the moment they enter the science room, they are filled with energy and excitement. My students are very eager to learn, and long to DO science every day!
My students all receive free breakfast and lunch every day, and I also provide them with snacks to take home when that need is there.
When a child's basic needs are met, they have a better chance for success, children cannot learn when they are hungry.
I have always believed that the more you expect from a child, the more you will get. When I raise the bar, they meet the challenge. This year I hope to see their love of science continue to grow and their desire to learn more to be ever present.
My Project
I was fortunate enough to attend Air Camp this summer as an educator, and we learned how valuable Drones are in the STEM classroom. Many of my students have never had the opportunity to use a Drone or experiment with coding.
This project will give my students the opportunity to use Drones in their science classes and complete CODES to make them move.
These are activities that will spark interest in students and allow them to explore STEM related lessons. Such lessons include creating obstacle courses for the Drones to successfully fly through. The students will then program the Drones to complete the missions.
